We’re pleased to announce we’ve been recognised in the EDF Excellence Awards. These are given annually to teams, individuals and suppliers which have performed well across the Hinkley project.

Somerset Larder was awarded in the following categories:

Gold for environment and sustainability / best on site supplier.

Silver for best local/regional supplier.

Bronze “rising star” for Estevan Colangelo, Apprentice Chef.

Runner up for “outstanding leader” – Luke Nicholson, Head Chef.

Somerset Larder’s Managing Director, Steve Braithwaite, said: “I’m so proud of everyone in the team. The spirit they’ve all shown this year has been superb and I’m incredibly pleased that we’ve been recognised by the judging panel. It’ll give the team real spirit and comfort knowing that their work this year hasn’t gone unnoticed and hopefully it’ll spur them on to continue delivering to their high standards in the future.

“This year we’ve had to adapt and respond to the challenges that the pandemic has thrown at us. Obviously welfare is our priority and we’ve developed and adapted our service to ensure the safety of our workforce, as well as the wider site team. In changing the way we operate to overcome these obstacles, we’ve brought them on that journey and they’ve been absolutely superb – they’ve all worked incredibly hard as a team.

“Our company vision is nourishing the community and we’ve extended that outside the project this year by working with NHS Somerset Foundation Trust and the charity FareShare to support local people, organisations and projects in these times of crisis. It’s been an incredibly proud year for Somerset Larder.”

Ian Myers, EDF’s Deputy Site Construction Director, added: “Congratulations to you and your teams for the recognition you received in the excellence awards.

“Your teams have done a fantastic job in helping us to keep the site going throughout the pandemic, I think we have communicated this throughout the period, however the award shows that there is recognition and appreciation up to the highest level.

“What should make this even more special is the competition you were up against, all of our service providers have played a massive part in the success of the site progress during the pandemic, so when you put it in this context it is even more remarkable.”
