Our big focus is recruiting apprentices into the business. Three chefs recently completed our courses and three more have started with us. We have also employed an apprentice finance assistant and are looking into opportunities to bring more into hospitality roles.

“I joined Somerset Larder through my apprenticeship at college and I am learning a lot through my course. Somerset Larder is helping put what I learn into practice in my everyday environment. As an apprentice I get to move around through different parts of the kitchen and pick up new skills. Overall, Somerset Larder is a great place to work with a good team of people. ”

David, Apprentice Chef.

The shortage of skilled personnel in the food and drink industry is something we are keen to address, working closely with local colleges on traineeships and apprenticeships. Young people can use the opportunity to get a better understanding before committing to a career in food.

Our aim is to make the west country a focus for food talent and to raise the standards and rewards for careers in hospitality. To this end we launched ‘FAB Futures’ which aims to attract, train and develop skills in hospitality for recruits of all ages and backgrounds.
