Full Time: 39 hours per week. Monday to Friday 8.5 hours between 7:30 and 17:30  

Salary: £15.20 per hour, plus salary enhancements for weekend work

Job Description

To assist the Health and Safety team by contributing and promoting the ZERO HARM safety culture and Somerset Larder’s Health and Safety Policy.  Supporting with daily, weekly, and monthly health and safety tasks such as HSE data collection and entry into HSE software applications – Insight, updating COSHH information in CHEMDOC, asset management and other requirements etc.

You should show a natural desire to learn and to contribute to workplace safety for all employees, visitors and contractors.

  • Conduct NNB site induction with new employees, visitors, and Tier 2 contractors.
  • Lead or attend health and safety inspections (planned HSE and focussed inspections e.g., General HSE, COSHH, PVPI, Manual handling, Occupational hygiene, fire safety, emergency preparedness etc.).
  • Report writing of inspection reports and others where required.
  • Develop toolbox talks, safety flashes, safety alerts and SSW (safe systems of work) etc.
  • Maintain and update RAMS (risk assessment and method statements) and general risk assessments.
  • Update and maintain HSE software applications (CHEMDOC, Insight, Hospitality tracker etc.).
  • Maintain and update COSHH Requirements (maintaining and updating unit COSHH folders) and ensuring all departments are kept current.
  • Attending health and safety committee meetings and other relevant meetings.
  • Work closely with contractors ensuring the company health and safety requirements are followed and complied with.
  • Liaising with Tier 2 contractors, review contractor HSE information.
  • Liaise and advise catering operational teams on health and safety matters.
  • Assist with implementing actions from HSE inspections and audits assigned to health and safety team.
  • Assist with information gathering for incident investigations and monthly incident reporting.
  • Update incident and observations registers.
  • Assist with HSE requirements during ad hoc operational projects – site induction, contractor supervision, set to work etc.
  • Asset management (asset register entry and updating) of catering equipment.
  • Serve as DMS (delivery management system) back-up if and when required.
  • Management of critical stores.
  • Project support.

Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge & Experience: 

  • An understanding of general health and safety concepts (Hazard identification, fire safety, emergency preparedness) and the Health and Safety at Work Act, 1974
  • A good level of English, both written and oral including business English
  • Building relationship with operational teams and contractors
  • A confidential demeanour and communicator
  • Able to work methodically and independently.
  • Accurate and attention to detail
  • Able to use the basic functions of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Email etc) and other software applications
  • Asks for help when unsure

Successful applicants will be required to provide a three-year employment history and five-year address history in order to work on Hinkley Point C. They must be able to provide in date photographic ID and their right to work in the UK so that security clearance can be obtained as these roles are based on a nuclear regulated site.
