South West Larder, a Somerset Business Award winner, is growing. We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Transport Manager to join our team and to make a mark within the rapidly growing business.

The main purpose of the role is to co-ordinate the delivery operations to ensure accurate and timely delivery of goods and equipment to all outlets across the South West Larder Limited operations, ensuring the achievement of a high-quality service and excellent health and hygiene standards. 

Annual Salary Grade 5, from £40,000

Reporting to the Operations and Culinary Director, leading and managing all staff with a supportive and motivational approach, ensuring staff work effectively, professionally and in line with SWL values and behaviour expectations through; 

Operations

  1. Stock, delivery and dispatch
  2. Adhering to standards as per the Food Safety Management System
  3. Schedule planning
  4. Performance tracking and reporting
  5. Audit/manage/coordinate supplier and tier 2 drivers/vehicles

Driving

  1. Vehicle management compliance
  2. Attend client transport meetings as required
  3. Responsible for vehicle management and maintenance schedules
  4. Compliance with operator’s licence
  5. Compliance with all driver regulations i.e. tachograph

Health, Safety and Hygiene 

  1. Ensure ancillary equipment is kept in a hygienic and maintained state
  2. Fully support the waste management plan
  3. Participate as a HACCP team member if required
  4. Ensure compliance with H&S legislation and Codes of Practice, embracing Zero Harm
  5. Compliance with traceability requirements
  6. To lead all transport related incident investigations

Leadership and Management

  1. Organise and deliver relevant training
  2. Schedule rotas and review timesheets
  3. Interview potential new staff
  4. Complete staff appraisals and performance
  5. Participate in ongoing professional development and training

Communication and Record Keeping

  1. To submit all reports on time
  2. Ensure documents are kept in line with procedures and as per GDPR and data retention policies and legislative requirements 
  3. To complete other tasks that can be reasonably expected as directed by the Senior Management Team. 

COLLEAGUE PROFILE

Qualifications  

  •  Be CPC National qualified
  •  Hold a Passenger Transport Manager OL Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) 
  •  Hold a H&S qualification or related experience 
  • Have good general education and numeracy skills 
  • Full, UK driving licence 
  • Hold a PCV licence 

Skills

  • Have good organisational skills 
  • Have good communication and interpersonal skills – able to communicate concisely and with clear instructions 
  • Be adaptable and flexible to changing working methods or practices 

Experience

  • Have previous relevant experience in transport, logistics, supply chain or relevant industry 
  • Have a minimum of 3 years Transport Management experience 
  • Have a good understanding of driver regulations, hours, compliance, CPC.  
  • Have a knowledge of transport legislation and licence  
  • Be experienced at working under pressure, against timeline and with information that changes  
  • Have experience of people management 
  • Have worked within a fast paced sector previously – Food / FMCG
